A new study by Ever Drive has found that the stretch of Interstate 4 between Daytona Beach and Tampa, Florida is the most dangerous interstate in the country. The company used data from 2010 to 2015 from the Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s fatality analysis report, which revealed that there were 1.41 fatalities per mile during the last six years along the 132-mile stretch of highway.
Experts believe that high levels of distraction, tourism, and the I-4 Ultimate improvement project are all contributing factors to the high fatality rate. According to locals, reckless driving is also a big problem. Changing lanes without signaling and speeding are two of the most common causes of accidents that plague this dangerous stretch of highway. In fact, the problem has gotten so bad that many locals report that they avoid driving on the I-4 if they can. According to an article by Inquisitr, hundreds of social media users reported that they were not surprised by the recent analysis, with some even stating that they experience severe panic attacks when they travel on Interstate 4.
