Choosing a personal injury attorney is an important decision that can affect your recovery. Let me tell you a little about myself
I was born and raised in Florida and worked my way through college at the University of Central Florida by working at United Parcel Service unloading trucks and sorting packages. I received my B.A. Degree in Political Science – Prelaw. I then attended Nova Southeastern University where I received my Law Degree. Upon graduating and receiving my law degree, I passed the Florida Bar examination on my first attempt and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1993.
My first job after receiving my law degree and being admitted into the Bar was Assistant State Attorney. Not only was this a great opportunity to serve my community, but also a great opportunity to gain valuable trial experience. Although I worked in different divisions as an Assistant State Attorney, working in the “Traffic” division handling DUI, Reckless Driving and other traffic related cases has provided the most benefit to me today as I handle injury cases for my clients.
I eventually left the State Attorney’s Office and accepted a position with an insurance defense firm representing several large insurance companies and corporations. This position opened the door for me to work directly for the largest insurance company in the country, State Farm.
During my years with State Farm, I received some very valuable training, which included the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Trial Program in Chicago, and then the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Advanced Trial Program in Phoenix. These programs each involved a full week of intensive trial training by law school professors, and focused on important trial skills such as opening statements, witness cross examination, and closing arguments. This training certainly helped me win cases for the insurance company. Now, this same training helps me win cases for my injured clients.
In addition, I also received very comprehensive insurance policy coverage training. If you have ever tried to read your own insurance policy, you can easily understand how useful this training becomes when I am working to recover the maximum amount for my injured clients. Imagine settling your case for less than the full value because your attorney did not find insurance coverage that would otherwise have been available to compensate you. Believe me, it happens.
The years of insurance work have provided me with a first-hand understanding about how insurance companies operate, and of course how they defend personal injury cases. Now, I use this knowledge and experience to represent everyday people and families who have sustained injuries and damages from car, motorcycle, truck/tractor-trailer accidents; Social Security disability, medical malpractice, work/on-the-job injuries and much more.
